Environmental Assessment of Homes

Most childhood lead exposure occurs in housing built before 1978 with deteriorated lead-based paint.  Licensed Lead Risk Assessors from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) provide environmental assessment for lead hazards in homes in Cuyahoga County except in the cities of Shaker Heights and Cleveland.

CCBH can check a home for lead hazards at no charge under the following circumstances:

  • A documented child with an elevated blood lead of 10 ug/dL or greater.
  • Written request for assessment from a healthcare provider for a child 5 years old or younger.

CCBH also conducts lead risk assessments for a fee.  Click here to view the request application and fee structure.
