Lake Erie Protection Fund Grant

The Lake Erie Protection Fund Grant project had a number of objectives, including: to provide data regarding the performance rates of home sewage treatment systems (HSTS) in Cuyahoga County, assess the possible contributing failure factors, and educate homeowners on HSTS and water quality issues. Likewise, the Board of Health will perform water quality assessments on specific streams and tributaries that run directly to Lake Erie to assess the overall health of these specific aquatic environments.

The water quality studies provided information as to the overall health of the specific stream segments evaluated. To summarize, the study included:

1. Inspection of over 4,000 HSTS throughout the Lake Erie Watershed of Cuyahoga County.
2. Educational Outreach programs on water quality and HSTS issues.
3. Performed extensive chemical, biological and physical assessments on selected tributaries and streams.
