Many water pollution problems cannot be traced back to a specific source, but are caused when
run-off from the surrounding land enters the storm sewer systems and waterways. The general
population unknowingly contributes to this non-point source pollution with their daily practices
(i.e. aging sewage collection and treatment systems, land development in riparian areas, unwise
fertilizer or pesticide use, pet waste disposal, automobile maintenance, etc.)
Therefore, CCBH provides education to the general public about non-point source issues.
This education includes the following activities:
Involvement in local watershed protection groups
Educational seminars for school children and civic groups
Educational seminars for homeowners in unsewered areas regarding their household sewage
treatment systems
Planning/participation in watershed festivals and stream clean-ups
Educating local government decision makers on water quality issues
