Consumer Products and Food Recall System
Information and details of food products recalled affecting Ohio can be seen on the web
pages of
ODA
and
ODH
.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),
the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the
Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the
Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) along with other federal and state agencies are charged
with protecting the public from unreasonable injury or death from consumer and food products.
The CPSC prevents injuries and deaths from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical or
mechanical hazard to the public. CPSC has
contributed to the decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with malfunctioning
products for the past thirty years.
The FDA, USDA, and state agencies use the recall system to alert local health departments and
the public of potentially unsafe food products
that might remain on the market. Depending on the type of recall in effect and its
distribution in the State the CCBH conducts surveillance activities ensuring that
any products that have been listed are removed from the shelves in accordance with the recall
notification.
The U.S. Government has established a central RECALL web site for the public and its
agencies. From this site recalls from all types can be retrieved.
