Fathers Matter!

  • Cleveland is now again the #1 city in poverty in the nation.
  • Along with other factors, a high rate of unwed births contribute to the high number of children living in poverty.
  • Children without fathers present in their lives have an increased risk of poverty, social and behavioral problems, violence, aggression, early sexual encounters, and contact with the Juvenile Justice system.
  • The pregnancy, birth and early parenting experience present a unique opportunity to intervene and make a difference with fathers.

The fatherhood program address barriers to father involvement to help ensure that all children in Cuyahoga County grow with two loving and involved parents in their lives.  Training is available for area agencies, prenatal providers, hospitals, childcare settings, colleges of nursing/nursing schools and service providers.  Special attention is focused on father friendly teaching styles and messages, co-parenting and paternity issues.

Program Goals

  • Identify barriers to father involvement in systems (public/ private agencies, hospitals, colleges of nursing, child care settings) and address barriers through education & training.
  • Dispel myths about unmarried fathers.
  • Promote and support the initial healthy development of the infant/father relationship & co-parenting relationships.
  • Develop/conduct group education/trainings for fathers to learn to safely comfort and care for their babies.
  • Provide Safe Comfort and Care and Daddy 911(Emergency Care) classes.

Prevent Premature Fatherhood

The purpose of this program is to focus on prevention of premature fathering and drive home the message of the importance of reaching young boys and their parents prior to fatherhood. This pilot program targets the communities of Hough, Euclid, Parma and Clark-Fulton with outreach to young teens 12-17 with education wrapped in after school events.

Our programs are supported by the Cuyahoga County Commissioner’s, the County Fatherhood Initiative and Community Endeavors Foundation

Join the movement to ensure that all children in Cuyahoga County grow with two loving and involved parents in their lives!
