Child Fatality Review

This program is funded by the Board of Commissioners and administered by the CCBH to collect data on all child deaths within the county.  A case review committee comprised of dedicated professionals from the medical, social services, law enforcement, educational, juvenile justice, mental health, and public health arenas meets on a regular basis to discuss circumstances surrounding the deaths of children and make recommendations for actions to reduce preventable deaths of children in our community.

The program also strives to increase awareness of and educate the community on recurring themes identified through case review, such as:
1) safe infant sleep practices
2) importance of adequate and appropriate supervision of young children
3) importance of early and adequate prenatal care
4) general safety measures such as childproofing the home and installing/maintaining smoke detectors
