Cancer Surveillance
Cancer is a general term often used to describe a group of separate diseases such as breast cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer. Cancer is more common than people realize as 1 out of 2 males and 1 out of 3 females will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime.
Each year, CCBH keeps track of the amount of cancer that occurs in people living in Cuyahoga County to determine if the amount of cancer is changing.
Cancer Cluster Inquiries
Cancer clusters are defined by the Ohio Department of Health as a greater-than-expected number of cancer cases occurring within a group of people over a specific period of time (e.g. over a five year time frame).
Clusters typically include a rare type of cancer, one type of cancer, or a cancer occurring in an age group that generally is not affected.
